Spiritual Healing
Question:
My eighty-year-old father witnessed a catastrophic
vehicular accident involving the traumatic death and cranial decapitation of a
young child. Ever since beholding that scene, his memory has collapsed: he has
forgotten the names of family members, cannot recall his daily prayers, and
although he opens the Holy Quran, he weeps stating he can no longer read its
script. Neurologists and cardiologists prescribed pharmaceuticals, estimating
recovery within months. Is there a spiritual therapeutic intervention available?
Answer:
Maintain his prescribed medical therapeutics; his
cognitive faculties will return by the grace of Allah. Alongside medical
treatment, implement this spiritual therapy: while your father is in deep sleep
at night, stand beside his head and recite softly the opening verses of Surah
Al-Baqarah—from Alif-Lām-Mīm up to Yu’minūna bil-Ghayb—at a
gentle volume that does not disrupt his slumber.
Remain entirely reassured; your father will recover
his normal mental equilibrium, God willing. Charity averts calamity: purchase a
healthy goat, slaughter it, distribute the meat entirely among the destitute,
and donate the proceeds of the hide to charity.
Question:
My persistent struggle is a total lack of
steadfastness and executive consistency; I yearn to cultivate enduring resolve.
Furthermore, while I interact with everyone—whether kin, stranger, friend, or
adversary—with profound courtesy, whenever someone smiles and converses warmly
with me, an intrusive suspicion arises that their warmth is entirely
artificial, merely returned because I showed them civility. I do not claim
extraordinary divine love, yet I remember God ceaselessly. I observe the five
daily prayers, fasts, and Quranic recitation punctually, yet I persistently
condemn myself as wretchedly sinful; whenever a noble deed presents itself, I
deliberate hundreds of times, doubting my capacity to fulfill it. Kindly grant
me authorization to practice meditation (Murāqabah) and instruct its
exact method.
Answer:
Engage continually in the invocation of Yā Ḥayyu Yā Qayyūm (یَا
حَیُّ یَا قَیُّوْمُ) while walking, standing, and resting, with or without ritual
ablution. At night before retiring to sleep, recite Yā Rabbur-Raḥīm (یَا رَبُّ الرَّحِیْمُ) once,
close your eyes, assume the liturgical posture of prayer (tashahhud),
and visualize a radiant beam of vibrant orange light entering the crown of your
cranium and absorbing deeply into your brain.
Practice this contemplative exercise for ten minutes
daily. Following both daily meals, consume a wholesome sweet delicacy without
fail. Upon completing the meditation, drift into sleep without uttering speech
to anyone.
