Question:
The lymph glands or thyroid tissues in my throat
have enlarged; my throat is inflamed and swollen, causing severe difficulty in
breathing. I have suffered from this painful condition for six years.
Physicians recommend surgical excision, but my elders insist that this ailment
stems from demonic or spiritual possession (āsīb), warning that surgery
will offer no relief.
Answer:
When the anchor of faith shatters and conviction in
Allah Almighty grows fragile, the inevitable consequence is that human thought
falls prey to paralyzing superstitions and delusions. The modern age is one of
skepticism, anxiety, and profound inner doubt. People profess the remembrance
of Allah and His Messenger with their lips, yet their hearts are governed by
dark conjectures and insidious thoughts. Whenever an ailment or affliction
proves difficult to diagnose or does not yield readily to therapy, people
reflexively attribute it to demonic possession or witchcraft. In truth, the
spread of this superstitious mentality among a populace acts as a lethal
poison.
Reflect for a moment: what possible connection can
an enlarged glandular growth in the throat have with demonic possession? Is
possession the medical term for a localized physical inflammation of the
throat?
Excessive consumption of strong antibiotic drugs
depletes the blood and induces chronic dehydration and dryness in the brain.
Restful sleep evaporates. Enduring chronic mental tension, a person begins
having distorted, terrifying nightmares, and cries out that black magic has
been cast upon them. This irrational belief has been excessively nurtured by
self-proclaimed occult practitioners. Whenever an anxious patient consults
them, they immediately declare that sorcery is at work—an unfalsifiable accusation
that the vulnerable patient has no empirical means to disprove. If these
practitioners did not terrify people in this manner, their lucrative
enterprises would collapse.
You are under no affliction of demonic possession
whatsoever; this is an entirely physiological disease. The remedy is
straightforward: charge pure linseed (flaxseed) oil under yellow light rays,
and using a light touch, gently massage the swollen glandular area for five
minutes every morning and five minutes every evening.
