Aesthetic Meditation & Trans-religious Practice-The Secret of Radiant Beauty

 Question:

The Rūḥānī Dāk column is read with great devotion in our household every week. Reading your published meditative exercises, we long to benefit from them directly. I venture to write to you today in the earnest hope of guidance. Some time ago, a meditative practice entitled "The Secret of Beauty: The Red Rose" was published. I desperately wished to practice it with your permission, but regrettably, the clipping was lost. I humbly request you to publish the rose meditation once more, as my friends and I wish to clarify several aspects:

1.      I belong to a Christian family; may an individual from a Christian household undertake your prescribed meditations?

2.      What is the duration of this meditation, and what degree of ritual purification is required?

3.      May women perform this practice during their menstrual cycle?

4.      What should one do if intrusive thoughts arise during meditation?

5.      Upon concluding the Red Rose meditation, may I transition immediately into the companion meditation, "The Secret of Attraction"?

Answer:

The Rūḥānī Dāk column is simply a vehicle dedicated to serving the creation of Allah. Allah Almighty is not merely Rabb al-Muslimīn (the Lord of Muslims), but Rabb al-‘Ālamīn (the Lord and Sustainer of All Creation). Such is the divine order: when the sun shines, every creature emerges from darkness to draw light; when rain descends, the entire earth is quenched; when the wind blows, it does not discriminate between Muslim, Hindu, or Christian—all receive oxygen in proportion to their capacity. A physician treats all humanity alike; likewise, a spiritual healer exists to solace the grief of all God's creation.

At night before retiring to sleep, close your eyes and visualize that you are standing in a lush garden filled with radiant red roses. Inwardly perceive their fragrance until this subtle aroma fills your room so tangibly that others may discern it. This contemplative practice may be performed by any person regardless of creed or faith. Its maximum duration is ninety days. Women may continue the meditation during their monthly cycle. If stray thoughts arise, do not struggle to repress them; simply let them pass on their own accord.
